Carol J. Davis

February 22, 1931 — February 21, 2018

At 2:50 p.m. Wednesday February 21, 2018, Carol Jeanne Davis departed this life to be reunited with her Lord and Savior, finally free of pain and the restrictions of this world she had fought valiantly for several years. Wife, Mother, Nana and dear friend to many, she lived her life as she had dreamed; fully, joyfully, adventurously, generously and lovingly.

Born February 22, 1931 in Lockport Illinois to Evan and Mildred Barnes. She was the older sister to her only brother, Robert. Her life saw a variety of experiences she cherished and always would draw upon. She worked as Dental Assistant in Ottumwa, Iowa and went on to attend Clark College, Dubuque Iowa. Soon after she drew upon her love of travel and flew as a Flight Attendant for American Airlines. Later when in the Quad Cities, she attended and graduated from Mary Crest Collage, Davenport, Iowa, graduating with a Bachelors of Arts in Elementary Education. Adoring children as she did, she was a mentor, guide and tutor to many. But her true calling and delight in life was being a wife, mother, and grandmother.

In 1951, in Ottumwa, she met and fell in love with the love of her life, Merrill Davis. He courted her for years with limitless hope and determination until she gave him her heart. They were married October 22, 1955. She was a devoted wife with love unending. They remained in Ottumwa, starting their family. She gave birth to two daughters, Dori and Cindy. In 1964, Merrill's work with John Deere moved the family to Monterrey Mexico where she had the adventure of a lifetime until their return in 1968! She and the family settled into their Moline home in 1970. It is here she had the extreme joy of knowing so many good friends and sharing in life's activities. In recent years, she delighted in spending time at their home in Naples Florida. She cherished and found pleasure in the many friends she had while there. She was an avid and passionate player of Bridge. Oh how she loved the game and the special times shared with her dear partners and friends whom she adored, loved and treasured as a second family. She was a proud member of PEO, Chapter KT., and supported and loved the Fine Arts. Her presence will be deeply missed, but will live on in the hearts of all blessed to have known and to have been touched by her.

Carol is survived by her loving husband of over 62 years, Merrill; their daughters, Dori (Steven) Wauer of Bettendorf Iowa, and Cindy Davis of Littleton Colorado Grandchildren, Thomas and Rachael Wauer, both of Bettendorf. Sister-in-law, Karen Barnes of Summerfield Florida and niece, Shannon Barnes of San Francisco California. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Robert Barnes.
