Carl E. Compton

Carl E. Compton, Sr., of East Moline, died Thursday, March 10, 2005, in Rock Island, at the home of his daughter, from complications of esophageal cancer. Private services have already taken place, with burial at National Cemetery, Rock Island. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, assisted the family with arrangements. Carl Eugene Compton, Sr. was born October 30, 1920, in Numa, Iowa, the son of Abram and Lilly (Moore) Compton. He married the former Betty Franklin on April 5, 1942, in Kahoka, Missouri. Carl and Betty spent 53 joyful years together before Betty passed away on July 19, 1995. Carl was a truck driver for Dohrn Trucking for over twenty years, retiring in 1981. He also taught commercial truck driving at Scott Community College. Carl served proudly in the Army during World War II, serving as a tank driver and sharp shooter. Carl was a member of the Local 371 Teamsters and the NRA. He enjoyed fishing, boating, family, eating, reading, and camping with his family. Carl is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Carla and Frank Feher, Chesterton, Indiana, April and Jeffery Adamson, Moline, and Psyndy Compton-Muse and Michael Ray Muse, Rock Island; a son and his wife, Carl E. and Chris Compton, Jr., Moline; six grandchildren, Tomas Feher, Chesterton, Indiana, James and Audrey Adamson, Rock Island, Patrick Adamson, East Moline, Robert and Brady Wakeland, both of Rock Island, and Alex Wakeland, Bettendorf; two step-grandchildren, Danny and Jamie Muse, Williamsburg, Iowa, and Bradley Muse, Little Rock, Arkansas; one great-granddaughter, Victoria Adamson; two step-great-grandchildren, Jeana Leigh Muse and Jackson Lee Muse; a brother and sister-in-law, Athy and Celeste Compton, Davenport; a sister, Rebecca "Irene" Risler, Davenport, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Velda "Pete" Hall, Milan. Carl was preceded in death by his wife; three brothers, Ward, Forrest and Walter Compton; two sisters, Maude Moeller and Ida "Viola" Kostas; and three sisters in infancy, Fern, Loraine, and Vienna Compton.
