Richard C. ?Dick? Rohwer, 81, of Rock Island, Illinois, formerly of Moline, died Friday, October 8, 2010, in Silver Cross Nursing Center, Rock Island.
Services are 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, Moline, with The Reverend Daniel A. Witkowski officiating. Burial is in Moline Memorial Park, where Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Visitation is 2 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, and one hour before services Wednesday at the church. Doric Lodge #319, AF & AM will conduct Masonic funeral services at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation.
Richard Charles Rohwer was born November 19, 1928, in Moline, the son of George and Doris Jones Rohwer. He married Jeanne Samuelson on January 8, 1949, in Moline. She died March 20, 2004. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. Dick was a design detailer in structural steel fabrication for several companies and also owned and operated Rohwer Structural in Moline. He was superintendent of maintenance for Moline School District #40 for several years.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Moline, and Doric Lodge #319, AF & AM, Moline. He enjoyed wood working and wood carving, and placed first in the wood carving competition at the Iowa State Fair in 1989.
Dick is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Terry Bender of Milan; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Rohwer of Laconia, New Hampshire; a granddaughter Stephanie Rohwer and her fiancé Kevin Hewson of Portsmouth, New Hampshire; three step granddaughters and their husbands, Jennifer and Chris Selby of Urbana, Illinois, and Amy and Dave Sill and Sarah and Josh Hoffman, all of Rock Island; five great-grandchildren, Emma, Patrick and William Selby, Madeline Sill, and Isabelle Hoffman; and a cousin, Marilyn Johnson of Rock Island. He was preceded in death by his wife; a son, Glenn Rowher, and a brother, Raymond Rohwer.
