Richard C. Hanson, 82, of Hampton, Iowa, formerly of East Moline, Illinois, died Saturday, September 5, 2009, in Hampton Health Care Center, Hampton.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday, September 10, 2009, in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, with Father Keith Walder officiating. Burial is in St. Mary?s Cemetery, East Moline. A Masonic funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, followed by visitation until 7 p.m. In addition, there will be a reflection and memory visitation in the youth-cafe room at the United Methodist Church, Hampton, Iowa, from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2009. Memorials may be made to the Scottish Rite Building Fund or the family.
Richard Charles Hanson was born August 8, 1927, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of Emil John and Anna (East) Hanson. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during WW II. He married Marjorie A. Demro in 1946, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and they were later divorced. He married Laura Goethels VanDeWalle in 1982, in Moline. She died November 2, 1998. He was Energy Conservation Consultant for Builders Sales and Service in Moline for 13 years, retiring in 1992. He previously owned Dick?s Roofing in Moline, and was a roofer for Quality Roofing Company, Moline, for 16 years.
Dick was an active member of the Masonic Fraternity, where he was a Past Master of Moline Lodge #1014, AF & AM, a 32nd degree Mason in Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Moline, a member of Mohammed Shrine Temple, Peoria, and a former member of Rock Island Commandery #18, Knights Templar, Moline High 12 Club, Moline Chapter #258, Order of Eastern Star, and Moline Zal Grotto. In addition, he was past president of the Rock Island Exchange Club, a member of Thor Lodge #9, Order of Vikings, Moline TIP Club, Friends Circle Club, East End Club and American Legion Post #227, East Moline, and a former member of Moline Eagles Lodge #1121, Moline, and Moline Elks Lodge #556.
Dick is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Merville Blakesley of Lebanon, Tennessee, Julie and Rick Williamson of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Sandra and Denny Shirk and Laura and Kevin Quintus, all of Hampton, Iowa; ten grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Charlotte Castiglione of Livonia, Michigan; and a special friend, Viola Stulir of East Moline. He was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Wilke.
