Billy E. Simpson, 83, of Moline, Illinois, died Sunday, January 11, 2015, at UnityPoint Health - Trinity Rock Island, Rock Island, Illinois.

Private services will be at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established in his memory. Trimble Funeral Home & Crematory, Moline, is in charge of arrangements.

Billy Ernest Simpson was born August 21, 1931, in Ackworth, Iowa, the son of Lloyd Dean and Sarah Ruth (Bunn) Simpson. He married Barbara Joan "Jody" Armstrong on February 8, 1951, in Monmouth, Illinois. He served four years in the United States Air Force.

He worked for Deere & Co. as a scheduler, retiring as supervisor in 1984. After retirement, he took on the job/hobby of painting houses. He was a member of Moline Masonic Lodge #1014 AF & AM. He enjoyed golf and watching western movies. Above all else, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Billy is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jody; three daughters and their husbands, Jean and John Inhelder of Davenport, Iowa, Billie and Michael Gravett of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Mary and Robert Mings of Roseville, Illinois; six grandchildren, Jen and Paul Meier of Bettendorf, Iowa, Jaime Inhelder of Davenport, Stacy Boatman and Rick Jared of Hampton, Illinois, Mandy and Nathan Stinemetz of Laudenville, Ohio, Lissa Mings of Abingdon, Illinois, and Lane and Hillary Mings of East Galesburg, Illinois; seven great-grandchildren, Kyleigh, John, Brittany, Brandon, Kayla, Sierra, and Alexa; two great-great-grandchildren, Jaden and Jayce; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers.
