Betty McGuire Thomas, 78, of Coal Valley, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, July 8, 2016, surrounded by her children.

Funeral services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Trimble Funeral Home, 1700 1st Street, Coal Valley. Entombment is in Greenview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, East Moline. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.

The former Betty Genevieve McGuire was born March 5, 1938, in Rock Island, Illinois, to Joseph Roy and Rose Mary (Hinsburger) McGuire. She graduated from Alleman High School and later became a hairdresser. She married Richard E. Thomas on January 5, 1987, in Las Vegas, Nevada. He died April 23, 2001. She enjoyed bingo, sewing, and reading.

Betty is survived by her children and spouses, Trudy Zielstorf of Davenport, Becky and Larry Thorndyke of Coal Valley, Julie Miller of Orion, Illinois, and John and Jacqueline Gulley of Lynn Center, Illinois; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her son, L. Marshall Gulley; and siblings, Mary Ann, Michael, Donna, Jerry and Eldon.
