Betty J. Jacobs, 88, of Moline, Illinois, died Monday, April 2, 2018, in her home, surrounded by her family.

Visitation is 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, April 9, in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, with funeral services following at 11:30 a.m. Friends are invited to join the family at a funeral luncheon at East Moline American Legion, immediately following the funeral. Burial will be in Oquawka Cemetery, Oquawka, Illinois. Memorials may be made to Rock Island County Humane Society or St. Jude's Hospitals.

The former Betty Jean Byrd was born September 6, 1929, in Annawan, Illinois, to James M. and Minnie (Varnum) Byrd. She married Vito Piliponis in 1947, and they were later divorced. She married Marvin L. "Jake" Jacobs in 1973, in East Moline. He died April 30, 2005. She was a switchboard operator for International Harvester East Moline Works, retiring in 1990, and previously worked for Illinois Bell Telephone and Moline Public Hospital.

Betty was a 40-year member of Chapter #379, Order of Eastern Star, Murphysboro, Illinois, and a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Chapter #3629 in Oquawka, Green Lake Camping, Milan, and Hidden Lodge Campgrounds, Taylor Ridge. She had many hobbies, including camping, fishing, gardening, homemaking and home decorating, music and dancing, birds, and flowers. She loved her soap operas, western movies, and reading The Star and National Enquirer. Her greatest joys were her children and grandchildren.

Betty is survived by three children and spouses, Darald and Becky Piliponis of Palatine, Illinois, Jeffery Piliponis of Moline, and Wendy and Ron Schanfish of Moline; six grandsons, Mike, Ryan, Jeffrey Jr., and Jonathan Piliponis, and Dustin and Kyle Schanfish; and eight great-grandchildren, Noah, Abigale, Archer, and Ezra Piliponis, and Brodee, Benjamin, Kaydin, and Conner Schanfish. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jake; a son, Andy Piliponis; a step-son, Kevin Jacobs; sisters, Virginia Race and Wilma Gusse; a brother in infancy, Jimmy Byrd; and her mother-in-law, Evelyn Jacobs.
