Bernice Duncan, 97, of Rock Island, died, Sunday, February 6, 2005, at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline. Services are 2:00 PM, Wednesday, in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, with Reverend Roger Christianson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Riverside United Methodist Church, Moline, where she was a member. The former Miriam Bernice Hagerman was born October 21, 1907 in Muscatine, Iowa the daughter of Edward and Lula Maude (Smith) Hagerman. She graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in Education, and taught home economics at United Township High School. Bernice married John W. Duncan on September 27, 1946 in Moline, and he preceded her in death in 1974. Bernice was a member of the United Methodist Women, Rock Island Womens Club, Eastern Star, Blackhawk Retired Teachers, Illinois Retired Teachers, and National Education Association. She is survived by a cousin Charles "Mick" and Shirley Hagerman, Muscatine, three sisters-in-law, Mary Grimm, Tempe, AZ, Nancy and Rupert Rose, Amelia Island, FL, and Doris Shivers, Newberry, FL, and special friends Mitch and Joyce Strach, East Moline. Along with her husband, Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Patricia Brimmer, a sister, Dorothy Atwood, and a brother, Kenneth Hagerman.
