Beder Wood III, 82, of Moline, Illinois, died Monday, November 28, 2005, in his residence.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, with The Reverend M. Allen Mothershed officiating. Burial is in Rose Lawn Memorial Estate, Moline. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army or a favorite charity.
Mr. Wood was born December 3, 1922, in Moline, the son of Beder Wood Jr. and Henrietta Dalrymple Wood. He graduated from Moline High School and attended the University of Illinois until entering the U. S. Navy in WW II, where he served in the Marshall Islands. He married Shirley Lawrence on May 31, 1947, in Union, New Jersey.
He was owner of Beder Wood?s Sons on 18th Street at the Mississippi River, which his grandfather started in 1876, until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of First Congregational Church, Moline. He loved running his business, and enjoyed playing the flute, doing crossword puzzles, and traveling.
Beder is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley; a son, Beder Wood IV of Stelle, Illinois; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Terry Farrell of Milan; four granddaughters, Kendra Farrell of Milan, and Jacquelyn, Allyson and April Soliz of Westchester, New York; and his sister, Margaret Wood Coddington of Belle Vista, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence Wood, and a daughter, Sally Ann Soliz.
