Barbara Lue (Harland) Norris, 73, of Rock Island, Illinois, died Monday, June 19, 2006, at Trinity West Medical Center, Rock Island, following a stroke after surgery.
A Memorial Service will take place 6 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Canton, Illinois. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, is assisting the family.
The former Barbara Lue Harland was born September 25, 1932, in Macomb, Illinois, the daughter of Forrest Virgil and Ezma Mae (Eager) Harland.
Barbara was a Registered Nurse for 45 years, retiring in 1996. During her career she practiced at St. Anthony?s Hospital in Rock Island, the former St. Luke?s Hospital in Davenport, Graham Hospital in Canton, Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, and several nursing homes.
Barbara was a member of First Baptist Church in Canton, Illinois. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and spending time with her family. She was a member of the Association of Operating Room Nurses. Barbara was honored with a National Commendation in 1975 for developing an emergency plan when the roof was torn off of Graham Hospital by a tornado. She was also named in the first issue of Who?s Who in American Nursing.
Barbara is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Frederick A. Jr. and Kathleen Norris of Canal Winchester, Ohio; daughter, Freda K. Norris of Rock Island, Illinois; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and brothers and sister-in-law, William J. Harland of Decatur, Illinois, and Robert L. and Joyce Harland of Springfield, Illinois. She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty M. James.
Barbara?s faith in Jesus Christ, her Savior, was the guiding light of her life. She is now basking in the Light of his presence.
