Barbara E. Richards, 98, of Davenport, Iowa, formerly of Burlingame, California, passed on Saturday, June 29, 2013, in Crest Health Center, Davenport.

Services are 3 p.m. Friday, July 12, 2013, in the Koning Chapel at Ridgecrest Retirement Village, Davenport, with visitation one hour before the service. Burial will be in Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, California. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, is assisting the family. Memorials may be made to Quad City Animal Welfare Center, Milan.

The former Barbara Elsa Kreiss was born October 2, 1914, in San Mateo, California. She married Lt. William Wesley Cook on December 23, 1945, at Fort Lewis, Washington. He was killed in action in Korea on May 18, 1951. She married Howard E. Richards on October 4, 1958. They were divorced and he preceded her in death on May 28, 1991. She was a USO volunteer at the beginning of WW II, and was a Red Cross worker during the war until her marriage. She was a member of the Christian Science Church, loved spending time with her grandchildren, and enjoyed gardening and reading.

Barbara is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jon and Marcia Cook of Moline; two grandchildren, William Cook and Nancy Testa-Meyer and her husband Edward Meyer; two great-grandchildren, Ashley Testa and Serenity Meyer; step-sons and their spouses, Roger ?Tim? and Julie Richards of Arizona, Howard ?Doug? and Cathy Richards of Ingleside, Illinois, and Earl ?Jeff? Richards of Muenster, Germany; and three step-grandchildren, Jennifer, Christina, and Stephanie Richards. She was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
