Barbara A. Johnson

Barbara A. Johnson, 84, of Peoria, Illinois, formerly of San Antonio, Florida, and Moline, Illinois, returned to her heavenly home on Friday, May 26, 2017, in Lutheran Hillside Village Memory Care Unit, Peoria, Illinois, after a battle with dementia. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in this struggle and ultimately gave her peace.

Services are 11 a.m. Friday, June 2, 2017, in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Friends are invited to join the family for a funeral luncheon and time of sharing at CityView Celebrations at Trimble Pointe following the burial. Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

The former Barbara Anne Liedtke was born November 18, 1932, in Davenport, Iowa, to Arthur and Anne Swenson Liedtke. She married Harold Karl Johnson on February 20, 1954, in Davenport, Iowa. He died August 6, 2016. Barbara's faith was important to her, and she had been an active member and assistant organist of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Moline. She was an avid golfer and member of Tampa Bay Golf and Country Club, and as a sports fan, she followed the Cubs, Bears, Bulls, Illini, and Tampa Bay Rays. She was civic-minded, active in the Republican Party in Rock Island County, served as PTA president, and was active in her husband's mayoral campaign. She loved her children and grandchildren, and attended all of their sporting events and graduations.

Barbara is survived by three children and their spouses, Marci Messing of Peoria, Mark and Karen Johnson of Ada, Michigan, and Scott and Michelle Johnson of Estero, Florida; seven grandchildren and spouses, Michael and Autumn Messing, Molly and Ryan Abbott, Sarah Messing, Derek Johnson, Kyle Johnson, Alyssa Johnson, and Andrew Johnson; a great-granddaughter, Amelia Josephine Messing; and a sister, Susan Brady of San Luis Obispo, California. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son-in-law, Joseph Messing, and brothers, John and David Liedtke.
