Rena Johnson, 97, of Moline, Illinois, died Friday, July 31, 2009, in Heartland Health Care Center, Moline.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Moline, with The Reverend Larry Conway officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the church or one?s favorite charity. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, is assisting the family.
The former Rena Belle Sheahan was born February 3, 1912, in Lynn Township, Knox County, Illinois, the daughter of John and Belle (Wilber) Sheahan. She married Dr. Carl T. Johnson on July 27, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois. He died October 30, 1986.
Mrs. Johnson was a registered nurse. Following graduation from the former Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing, she continued to practice in Chicago and Detroit, Michigan, working lastly as a supervisor at Passavant Hospital in Chicago. She and her husband spent the war years in Baltimore, Maryland, where her children were born. They moved to Moline in 1946.
Rena was active in the church, served as a member of the Katherine Butterworth Circle, Rock Island County Medical Auxilary, Mary Little Deere DAR Chapter, IS Chapter of PEO, Intouch of Lutheran Social Services, and the Lincoln Center of Arts in Bettendorf.
She enjoyed her friends, volunteer work, and family activities.
Rena is survived by a daughter, Judy Piper of Moline, a son, Carl T. Johnson, Jr. (Marcia) of West Chester, Pennsylvania, grandsons, Gregory (Kristan) Piper, Theodore Piper, and Eric Johnson, a sister, Elise Seaton of Moline, a brother, Patrick Sheahan of Galva, Illinois, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
