Arnold J. Bauer

Arnold J. Bauer, 93, formerly of Moline, Illinois, died Tuesday, August 9, 2016, in Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline, Illinois.

Services are 3 p.m. Sunday in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Visitation is one hour before the services. Graveside services and burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Dubuque Memorial Park, Dubuque, Iowa. Memorials may be made to Riverside United Methodist Church, Moline.

Arnold James Bauer was born November 19, 1922, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Reinhold R. and Leona (Walker) Bauer. He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1941. After graduation he was employed by Farley & Loetscher in Dubuque, Iowa. He married Vivian Hirsch on April 2, 1943, in Dubuque. He served in the 5th Air Force division of the U. S. Army Air Corps during WW II. He attended the University of North Dakota in Fargo for special training while in the service. He was a topographical engineer in the South Pacific and traveled from Australia to Japan laying out target mosaics for air force pilots bombing missions, including Nagasaki and Hiroshima.

Arnold was employed by Deere and Company for 36 years as a project architect and administrator of Deere facilities, where he and his staff provided architectural services to John Deere dealers throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Australia. After retiring in 1985, he was plant engineer for Harrington Signal Co., Moline, for eight years.

He was an active member of Riverside United Methodist Church, Moline, where he was a lay leader, president of Methodist Men, chairman of finance, property and building committees. He was a member of Doric Lodge #319, AF & AM, and Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Moline.

Arnold is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Thomas Fuller of Moline; two grandchildren and their spouses, Stacey and Jeff Gerstel, and Jessica and Jason Stahl; and four great-grandchildren, Samantha and Tyler Gerstel and Andrew and Abby Stahl. He was preceded in death by his father, Reinhold Bauer; his mother, Leona Wilkerson; his wife, Vivian Bauer; his sister, Mary Lehnen; and his brother, Curtis Bauer.
