Anton ''Tony'' Johnson

April 17, 1981 — March 5, 2001

East Moline, Illinois Services for Anton "Tony" Johnson, 19, of East Moline, are 11 a.m. Saturday at First Congregational Church, Moline. The Reverend Dr. Robert Miller will officiate at this celebration of Tony's life. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline. Memorials may be made to Culver Academy, 1300 Academy Road, Culver, Indiana 46511. Tony was found dead Monday evening in Vail. In a senseless tragedy, he apparently had been drinking, took the wrong bus, got lost when he got off the bus alone, and then fell asleep in the snow. The cause of death has been determined to be hypothermia. Anton Andrew Johnson was born April 17, 1981, in Silvis, the son of C. Douglas and Patricia (Bulen) Johnson. He proudly graduated from Culver Academy, Culver, Indiana, where he was co-captain of the Culver Rowing Team. He was attending Colorado Mountain College, where he finally was an "A" student, and was planning to study construction management at the University of Denver in the fall. He worked at Memories of Vail photo gallery, and previously worked as a ski technician in Vail. Tony enjoyed many interests and was equally talented in all of them, including snow skiing, boating, scuba diving, flying, and had a love of music. "Tony was a fun, outgoing, handsome young man, who was very clever." He is survived by his parents, of East Moline; a brother, R. J. Johnson of Chicago; his grandparents, Virginia Johnson Bone of Moline, and Lois and Bob Bulen of Davenport; and aunts and uncles, Sue and Steven Michael Rebro of Bettendorf, and Carolyn and Gary Slaats of Madison, Wisconsin, and their families.
