Chief Warrant Officer Russell A. Kraemer, U.S. Army (Ret), 80, of Moline, Illinois, died Sunday, May 30, 2010, in Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis, Illinois.
Services are 11:00 a.m. Friday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, with The Reverend Jim DeBisschop officiating. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, with Moline American Legion Post #246 performing military honors. Visitation is 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Russell Kraemer Memorial Fund.
Russell Anthony ?Tony? Kraemer was born March 15, 1930, in New York, the son of Russell Acken and Anne (Holz) Kraemer. He married Doris ?Dee? Townsend on November 28, 1987, in New York City.
Tony retired from active duty in the United States Army in 1981, after 28 years of service. He was a nuclear weapons technician, retiring wth the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4 (CW4). Along with numerous cities in the United States and other countries, he served in or supported NATO countries including Turkey, Greece, Japan, Germany, Korea, England, Italy, and the Netherlands. After retirement, he worked as a technical writer and consultant for PECO in Davenport, Nomura in Rock Island, and Lockheed in New Jersey. He was awarded numerous awards and decorations including the Legion of Merit.
Tony was of the Catholic faith, attending a multitude of churches. He was a member of the Moline American Legion Post #246, VFW Post #2153, AUSAA, and MOAA. Tony spoke numerous languages, seven of them fluently. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, cards, and traveling with his wife in their motor home, along with vacationing in Texas. He volunteered at the Rock Island Arsenal Museum.
Tony is survived by his wife, Dee; sons and daughters-in-law from a previous marriage, Bruce and Andrea Kraemer of Aurora, Colorado, Gene Kraemer of East Moline, Illinois, Steve and Mary Kraemer of Peoria, Illinois, and Carl and Tina Kraemer of Elmwood, Illinois; step children and their spouses, Michael Talboom of Anamosa, Iowa, Terry and Janalea Huebbe of Dexter, Minnesota, and Tammy and Mike Coons of Anamosa, Iowa; nine grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
