Dorothy E. Holmes, 78, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Monday, January 23, 2012, in Aspen Rehab & Health Care, Silvis.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley, with The Reverend Jim DeBisschop officiating. Burial is in Coal Valley Cemetery. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
The former Dorothy Eilene Fletcher was born July 16, 1933, in Hillsboro, Illinois, the daughter of Frank LeRoy and Goldie Vaughn (Hicks) Fletcher. She married James Hollon, and later married Albert Holmes, who preceded her in death.
Dorothy worked for Servus Rubber, and then for United Camera Repair, both in Rock Island. She enjoyed animals, especially dogs and birds, fishing, and lilacs.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Donell Hollon of Taylor Ridge, Illinois, and Kelly and Sandy Hollon of Milan, Illinois; three grandchildren, Michael Hollon, Shayleen Hollon, and Rachel Taets; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, including Janis Danay and her husband, Ivan, of Moline. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert, and three brothers, Bob, Bill, and Jimmy Fletcher.
