Ethel Baker Yuill Gittings, 91½, of Rock Island, Illinois, died Friday, April 18, 2008, in Silver Cross Nursing Center, Rock Island.

Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, with The Reverend Kenneth L. Harris officiating. Burial is in Moline Memorial Park. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center, 724 2nd Ave West, Milan, Illinois 61264.

The former Ethel Graham Baker was born August 14, 1916, in Moline, the daughter of Howard and Ethel (Graham) Baker. She graduated from United Township High School and Brown’s Business College. She married Robert Yuill on June 18, 1944, in East Moline. He died July 8, 1968. She married Paul Gittings on October 9, 1973, in Dunedin, Florida. He died June 3, 1993.

She was a bookkeeper and secretary for many years. She lived in Florida for 17 years, returning to Rock Island in 1989. She was a member of Bethel Wesley United Methodist Church, Moline; Naomi Circle of the church, and Friendship Circle of King’s Daughters. She loved her dogs, and enjoyed sewing, dancing and traveling.

Ethel is survived by a daughter, Sandra K. Cook and her friend Jack Williams of Rock Island; a son and daughter-in-law, John R. and Regina Yuill of Hoffman Estates, Illinois; a granddaughter Megan Santoyo and her husband Alfonso of Palatine, Illinois; a great-granddaughter, Isabella Santoyo; a sister, Velma Hardy of Libertyville, Illinois; a brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Mary Ann Baker of Silvis, Illinois; and a brother-in-law, Hans Thomsen of Rock Island.

She was preceded in death by her husbands; a daughter in infancy; sisters, Phyllis Thomsen and Grace Eleanor Shipley, and a brother, Howard Baker.
