Patricia M. Bitel, 72, of Orion, Illinois, died Thursday, August 12, 2010, in her home surrounded by her family.

A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 20, 2010, at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Coal Valley. The family will greet friends at a luncheon at the church following the mass. Memorials may be made to the Cancer Research Foundation or a favorite charity. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley, is assisting the family.

The former Patricia Marie Mady was born March 9 1938, in Spokane, Washington, the daughter of Charles and Celeste McKenna Mady. She married John P. Bitel on August 11, 1956, in Fort Worth, Texas. He died September 26, 2005. She was a cashier at Target Stores for several years, and a member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Coal Valley. Her family was important to her and she took great pride in them and their accomplishments.

Pat is survived by four children, Mike Bitel of Evansdale, Iowa, Debra Taylor and her husband Jesse of San Antonio, Texas, Chuck Bitel of Andalusia, Alabama, and Kelly Bitel of Orion; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many special friends especially Joan and Bill Tellin and their children. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers and one sister.
