Helen Imogene Gillespie, 79, of Coal Valley, formerly of Colona, died Tuesday, March 4, 2008, in Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.

Private burial will be in Coal Valley Cemetery. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley, is assiting the family. Memorials may be made to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center, Milan.

The former Helen Imogene Sweeney was born June 16, 1928, in Nashville, Tennessee, the daughter of Bernice Holmes and Martha Clara (Climer) Sweeney. She married James Daniel Gillespie in Georgia. He died in 1974.

She worked at the Malco Window and Door Company.

Imogene is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Kenneth Teeter of Coal Valley, four grandchildren including Tammy and Jack Eades of Colona, and Tom and Lisa Hurr of Davenport, great-grandchildren, Alexa Hurr and Devin Taylor, and two brothers and one sister. She was preceded in death by a son, James Leonard Gillespie, two sisters, and one brother.
